About

Always a writer, sometimes a blogger, never a bootlicker

Wanted: For the Crime of Bootlicking

I had the audacity to question the hypocrisy of the different reactions to the Justice Kavanaugh accuser and the Biden accuser. It seemed like a fair question, but it led to a former friend unleashing on me with two accusations of her own. First, that I am “not as moderate as I say I am” and that I am a “Bootlicker of the Patriarchy”. As unhappy as I was about the exchange, it lit a fire in me that had been suffocated for years.

As a lifelong writer and author of a successful blog, I had lost my words for a while. Her attack became the oxygen to my political flames. I have always been “pretty political”. Raised in a traditional family with Conservative parents, I never really had a choice to not participate in conversations about parties and policies.

Attending a Catholic high school and Reformed Presbyterian College, I participated with debates that questioned the order that religion, politics and social justice had in our lives. As a single mom raising children working in the entertainment industry and industries that were male dominated, paying taxes, paying bills, needing healthcare, wanting safety for my family, having a 401K and a retirement to plan alone — I LIVE the ramifications of the policies they make. My world view extends beyond my uterus. I have followed politics too long to fall for the typical panic buttons to nowhere. My mind is my own — forged in the belief systems of my family, but developed through depth of my own experiences. I will write about it, I will speak about it and I will fight for what I believe is right.

So, you can call me a Bootlicker from the sidelines … but, I have a life to live and a blog to write.
